The Intel Emergency Amateur Radio System (IEARS) New Mexico chapter maintains a 35 Watt output Kenwood UHF repeater located in the RR7 building of the Rio Rancho, NM Intel Campus that operates on 444.7 Mhz, with a positive offset and a CTCSS tone of 100hz. The 6dB gain omni vertical antenna sits at a height of 75’ on top of the building, giving very good coverage down into the Rio Grande Bosque area, as well as a wide area around the Rio Rancho/NW Albuquerque Metro. The IEARS repeater was recently equipped with a 50 A/hr Lithium battery backup for operation during short term power outages in addition to Intel’s own generator system, as well. The repeater is Open Use, and because we are ARES affiliated and in both past and present have had IEARS members who are also in the Sandoval County Amateur Radio Emergency Service group, the repeater is sometimes cross-linked to the Rio Rancho SCARES repeater (NM5RR ) on 147.1 Mhz & 443.0 Mhz, CTCSS of 100 Hz. If there is some need for Emergency/Welfare traffic out of the local area, we have a partnership agreement with the SCARES group to use their HF and Packet station for this purpose.
